In the cargo hold of a large warship, young Zacarias and other soldiers are taken to Mozambique with the purpose of defending the Portuguese African empire from the German threat during the First World War. Already in colonial territory, the soldiers find a land marked by the oppression and violence of the conflict, which unfolds far from the glances of the world. It is in this context that Zacarias, raised in a Catholic and conservative Portugal, intends to give wings to his thirst for heroic adventures. Left behind by his platoon, the young soldier sets off on a long jungle hike in search of his comrades, the war and his dreams of glory. During his odyssey, beset by malaria fevers and constant threats, Zacharias is confronted with situations that put him face-to-face with his body’s limits, the madness of men and the ideals he pursues. Based on a true story, Mosquito navigates a limbo between space and time, constantly crossing the line that divides reality and fiction, in a confrontation with the horror of war and the subjugation of the people.
